Just as quick about the latest news for the JLA live action was revealed, are several developments that had occurred. First off, the major concern was to get Routh (Superman) and Bale (Batman) and to work around their busy schedules. Quicker than a speeding bullet and before you can say, “Holy headspin, Batman”, both Bale and Routh as reported here will not be in the JLA movie. DAMNIT!!!! Casting will begin sometime next week. I’d say what about these guys from the fan film of World’s Finest.
The second issue for the JLA movie has to do with… who will be in the JLA to begin with? In the JLA: Year One – there was Martian Manhunter, The Flash, Green Lantern, Aqua-Man, and Black Canary. Or if you go by the animated JLA series seen on the Cartoon Network, we had: Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Flash, Hawkgirl and Martian Manhunter. As reported in the same article linked above, the JLA will be made up of: Superman, Batman, the Flash, Aquaman, Wonder Woman and the Green Lantern. So, if the cast of characters are set, there is still some points to ponder.
For the longest time, The Flash live action movie was to be played by Ryan Reynolds. Having seen him in Blade 3, his smart mouth and cocky attitude would be a great to a Wally West Flash and not the Barry Allen Flash. The other consideration would be the Green Lantern. Those who follow comics would know there are many different Lanterns to choose from. Although Hal Jordan was one of the original members in the JLA comics; Jon Stewart was in the JLA animated series. While I love Hal, it would be nice to see a minority on the big screen and I would go with Jon. My wife and I chose Richard Brooks from Law and Order, Crow 2 and our favorite Firefly bounty hunter Jubal Early. I can’t think of a better presence on the screen. As for Wonder Woman, this has been one of the biggest debates since Joss was going to head the movie adaptation. As I mentioned in the early post, there was a rumor of Katie Holmes heading for a screen test. While I will admit to liking her acting abilities in Batman Begins and Thank You for Smoking, I just don’t see her as far as showing a larger than life presence. I would still opt for Charisma Carpenter but that’s just my choice. As for Aquaman, please do not let life imitate art as seen on Entourage Season 2 where Adrian Grenier was chosen by James Cameron to play this underwater hero. I just know that Aquaman has blond hair and can be seen with or without a missing hand. As far as casting, I don’t where to begin.
The last point, is that the JLA movie would be made in photo-realistic cgi movie. This came word from ScreenRant.com and you can look at this article here. If take a look at the Beowulf trailer below from Robert Zemekis, granted I am very impressed with the quality but there are some shots where it still looks very computer generate. I would argue against an animated series since we have seen the JLA animated 2-d series. Live action would be the next logic step similiar to the X-Men animated series and the X-Men films. Tell me what you think who and how the JLA movie should be made.
