Separated @ Birth… Scifi style part 3

On the left is Ted Sprague from Heroes and the Geico Caveman on the right. My wife had told me about the caveman’s crib website today and I thought the concept was fantastic. This had lead to me to the ABC website to find out when the Cavemen series was going to air. October 2, 2007 @ 8pm is the official date and time for this program. While the concept for a tv series from the car commercial must be a first, the caveman in present day is nothing new.

Captain Caveman and the Teen Angels was done back in late 70’s as an animated saturday morning series. However, the franchise went horribly wrong following the trends in that decade to introduce a younger sidekicks which always ended with, “& Son”. For example, Popeye & Son, Fangface & Son, Captain Caveman & Son. I really despised the retooling and for jumping the shark really too soon in any of these series.

Another caveman in present day reference was Cirroc the Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer played by the late and great Phil Hartman. Anyone who is a fan of Phil and/or of Saturday Night Live will remember this incredible and memorable character. To quote Cirroc, “When I see a solar eclipse, like the one I went to last year in Hawaii, I think ‘Oh no! Is the moon eating the sun?’ I don’t know. Because I’m a caveman — that’s the way I think.” What a loss to us and the world of Phil’s talent. Would it be possible that an Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer like character could make an appearance on the Cavemen series? Would that be paying tribute to Phil’s talent?

We miss you Phil.
