Before ID4, there was V. For those of this generation, may be surprised to know that V was originally aired back in the early 80’s. The miniseries was so successful that another miniseries was made called V: The Final Battle. Unfortunately, this lead to a weekly V tv series which was absolute terrible.
Nonetheless, V holds a very special place in my scifi heart. Not only was this created by Kenneth Johnson, who also create other scifi shows like The Six Million Dollar Man, The Bionic Woman, The Incredible Hulk, and Alien Nation. In addition, Robert Englund was everybody’s favorite Visitor before he became the infamous Freddy Krueger. Also, Michael Ironside who became one of my favorite anti-heroes and villain. His claim to fame before V was David Cronenberg’s Scanners. Click here to see this very famous scene from the movie. (Warning, it’s very graphic and there has been nothing like it since.) Lastly, and more importantly, there are two women who I fell in love with Jane Badler and Faye Grant.
There is no way that I could say, I prefer one actress over the other except that each woman had a strong presence on the screen that I had not seen on tv prior to that. By this I am referring to the leader of the rebellion by Grant and the main baddie by Badler. These roles would have and could have been done by men but I believe that it was Johnson’s brilliance to have these two roles be cast by women. I love the series and I’m eager to see what direction the show will take.
