Source: Fans May Have To Wait Years For New DC Comics Shows To Hit Netflix, Hulu – Comic Book Resources

According to comments made by Time Warner Inc. chief executive Jeff Bewkes during a conference call with analysts on Wednesday, Time Warner may begin releasing DC-based series to Netflix and Hulu several years after they first air, rather than one year. In the intervening years, already-aired episodes might be available on-demand to fans with traditional cable.

*****Spoiler Alert*****

Those who have watched the latest episode of The Flash, Cisco delivered a great line, “You know, our Dr. Wells may have been evil, but you’re just a dick.” We know corporations are in the market to make money. Some may look at them as a form of evil but I would defend them. However, in a free market, companies have the right to make a product or service that consumers want and charge whatever rate to be compensated. If the price is too high and the demand is low, the invisible hand theory will come along and lower that price. On the other hand, if demand is high, the cost of that product will go up. However, what Jeff Bewkes is planning on doing is a very dick move.

There is no disputing the popularity of these shows. Some fans will watch the show week to week on traditional tv or cable or buy the complete season on dvd/blu ray. Or in other cases, catch up via streaming services like Hulu and Netflix. For me, it’s all the above. In all the different options I have to watch, one way or another, I will see my shows. What I gave up years ago was cable because of the high cost that was involved and plus the economic downturn other alternatives came up to fill the need of cable. Like many others, people are living without the need to watch cable tv and that is what is worrying companies’ bottom dollar like WB.

Cable tv is not dead but the domination it once had will never be again provided moves like Bewkes is considering does not happen. Delaying these shows can be dangerous game that the WB is playing. I mentioned on a earlier entry about CBS creating a new Star Trek series but only making it for their All Access streaming service. Sure, some fans will you their money and I believe that the majority of fans will not be supporting the show behind a paywall. Again, I understand their decision but what if Star Trek Beyond sucks? Will fans care about a new series on the small screen? When it comes to Arrow and The Flash, if delay or restricted early seasons, you may not capitalize on the buzz factor the show is generation because you’re just want the show only for those who have cable. The writing’s on the wall and I believe Bewkes/WB refuse to read it or maybe they can’t read it at all.
