Let me start with this – the Spiderman universe is not the same as the Avengers universe. I know, Sony, I get it – you’re trying to have you own Avengers movie but here’s the problem: you gots 1 hero and have a shitload of villains – the Avengers are multiple heroes and have a shitload of villains. The two are not the same. Fleshing out the Spiderman universe, whereby, the stories are connected – I am all for that. However, you run the risk of getting tied down to the material/actor/director that if you need to change or shift storylines, we have to start over again with another god forsaken reboot.

I can not fathom a Venom movie albeit Spiderman 3 with Tobey. Is this new movie about Venom tread the same grounds as was done before or are we getting the updated Venom with Flash Thompson wearing the suit and working for the government? And here we go again, we are going to get another origin story but in this case, a less familiar character as a hero instead of a Venom as a villain.

Regardless, Sony just call this new move – Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends. If shit is going to get real, Spiderman is going to need back up and I’m not talking about Firestar or Iceman.

Sony Pictures has big plans for the Spider-Man universe. Though The Amazing Spider-Man 2 wont be hitting theaters until March, the studio is already announcing three new movies in the franchise: a third Amazing Spider-Man film, a Venom film, and a film featuring The Sinister Six — a group of Marvel supervillains. The Amazing Spider-Man 3 will begin production this fall with a planned release date of June 10th, 2016. Marc Webb, who directed the first two Amazing Spider-Man films, hasn’t signed on to direct it just yet, but Sony Pictures says that it hopes hell return.

The studio appears to be interested in recreating Marvels success with The Avengers. “Until now, we have approached each film as a separate, self-contained entity, but with this move, we have the opportunity to grow the franchise by looking to the future as we develop a continuous arc for the story,” Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach, who will produce the three new films, say in a statement. Sony Pictures has assembled a broader team to oversee all three upcoming films as well, ensuring that a continuous tone and plot arc tie them together.
